101domain.com review

I am sharing my experience, likes and dislikes about 101domain.com in this short article as it is important to know about a company before buying a domain or web hosting. Downtime or losing a complete website including domain and data is a disaster, therefore, make a RIGHT choice.

What I like:

  • A large number of TLDs available for registration including country domains. You cannot get these easily with the world’s popular domain service providers like GoDaddy

What I do not like:

  • The prices are very high. They charge $100 If a domain costs $25 for them. 3x more than what it cost
  • Very poor customer service. The chat agents cannot help you at all. They ask you to create a ticket and provide you information about your ticket if you already opened but cannot take any action
  • Domain registration takes longer for country domains
  • You need to fight hard for a refund and will get only if you play smart
  • Their actions are biased as they do not care about their policies
  • They limit your account and you cannot do anything about it

The above points are based on my experience from two domains I have bought from the company. I have received a couple of reminders about the expiration of my first domain but my client was not responding to my emails to take any action in advance. Finally, I renewed the domain on the expiry day which was mentioned in the reminders. The domain was renewed successfully but later they have sent me another invoice of $150 for restoration. I have asked them that I renewed on the day it was expiring and the expire should take affect by end of the day. The response was that the domain expires at 12:00am not by the end of the day. Alright, I wish I knew this before or at least mention it somewhere. Anyways, I asked for a refund and received my refund.

I registered my other domain and contacted them after two days if they processed the domain. They told me that it would take one more day. I kept waiting and waiting, and this took more than a week. My client got frustrated and asked me for a refund. I have refunded my client and asked the company for a refund but immediately after my email they processed the domain and denied the refund. I escalated the dispute to Paypal but 101domain limited my access to my account. After a month, I have won the case and Paypal refunded my money and as a result, I lost my access to my account.

What if I have 10 domain/ websites and I dispute for one domain and I lose access to all other domain/websites? All I would say, it was a pretty bad experience for me and will never consider them again for my business.

I just shared my experience. I am willing to share my correspondence here if it helps anyone to make their decision.
